What you'll be doing
This Unaccredited Psychiatry Trainee position is part of an exciting and innovative service that provides care to patients presenting with mental health problems within the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.
This position would be most suited to a medical officer with a strong interest in psychiatry or intending to join the RANZCP training program in the future. It should also be of interest to a doctor taking a break in training but wanting to develop their clinical knowledge and skills in an emergency psychiatry service seeing patients with diverse and often complex clinical problems, under the direction and supervision of psychiatrists with experience in emergency, consultation liaison and general psychiatry, both on site and via video facilities.

From Helensburgh in the north to North Durras in the south, ISLHD covers an area of 5,687 square kms. That’s 5,687 square kms of beautiful beaches, coastal cycling tracks, lush rainforests, incredible bushwalks and friendly people. The region is also host to many annual food, wine and arts festivals and events.
ISLHD operates seven hospital sites, employ over 8,500 staff and provide community health services across 58 locations. Commute times are short, childcare and schooling options are plentiful, and Sydney and Canberra are close by.
- MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia
- Completion of at least three postgraduate years
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to mental health
- Demonstrated evidence of excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise
- Evidence of continued professional development and commitment to self –education
- Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management
- Holds a current NSW drivers licence
