Position Details
As the Assistant Financial Controller you will support the Financial Controller & CFO in managing the finance function, with a primary focus on the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, ensuring compliance with internal controls and corporate obligations, and facilitating operational efficiency. This role involves overseeing the Accounts teams, key financial processes and controls, assisting with cashflow management, and contributing to team development and organisational goals.
Responsibilities
- Management and oversight of day-to-day accounts receivable/payable (AR/AP) functions, including invoicing, banking and payments, correct invoice coding to general ledger (GL), revenue recognition, and related taxes (GST, etc).
- Drive continuous improvement across all AR/AP systems and processes.
- Supervise the AR and AP teams to ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices, collections and payments in line with relevant policies, processes and procedures and delegated authority limits.
- Review and maintenance of AP electronic workflow and payment control systems, and accounting systems to ensure optimal performance.
- Preparation of weekly cash flow information and ad-hoc reporting.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting for local and national regulatory requirements including BAS preparation and Payment Times Reporting.
- Mentor, support and manage performance of the Accounts Teams in collaboration with the Financial Controller & respective Team Leaders.
- Support the Financial Controller in implementing robust internal controls and monitoring compliance.
- Build strong working relationships across departments to align financial practices with business needs.
- Assist with provision of information for external audits and liaise with auditors.
What We’re Looking For
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or equivalent
- Current CPA or CA qualification
- A current National Police Clearance
- Minimum 3-5 years post-graduate experience in a medium to large size enterprise
- Advanced Excel skills, including spreadsheeting & report writing
- Strong computer literacy supported by experience with enterprise level Accounting ERP systems (Microsoft Dynamics 365 highly regarded)
- Excellent communication (written & verbal) & interpersonal skills
- Strong organisational skills, able to manage and prioritise workload to meet deadlines
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
- A proactive, inquisitive approach to problem solving
- Excellent attention to detail
