AEMO at the Heart of Energy

AEMO is Australia’s independent energy system and market operator and system planner. AEMO’s purpose is to ensure safe, reliable and affordable energy today, and enable the energy transition for the benefit of all Australians. Australian governments are now committed to a net zero economy for Australia by 2050 and our vision is to enable this. We have the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to co-design the future of our energy systems, and our core values revolve around character, commitment, and connection. Join us as we contribute to this significant transition in the energy sector.

About The Division And Team

AEMO's forecasting division is responsible for providing long and medium-term forecasts of Australia's energy supply and demand. The team is responsible for delivering critical data that underpins many of our major reports, including AEMO's Gas Statement of Opportunities, Electricity Statement of Opportunities, and the Integrated System Plan.

AEMO is expanding its team with three new Analyst roles to support a high-impact initiative shaping the future of energy forecasting. These are unique opportunities to contribute to the energy transition by helping to shape how demand-side solutions are identified, understood, and integrated into future system planning. These newly created permanent roles will play a key part in building new analytical capability, working with data, stakeholders and emerging insights to influence how Australia’s energy system evolves—making it an ideal opportunity for analysts who want to be at the forefront of innovation and national impact.

The positions have the flexibility to be based out of any of our offices in – Sydney (two locations CBD and Norwest), Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Hobart.

What You Will Be Doing

The Analyst positions offer a strong opportunity to contribute to this high profile project while building capability that will continue beyond its initial delivery. The positions will focus on developing, reviewing and communicating model inputs, assumptions and forecasting models, supporting the delivery of robust, data-driven insights.

Working across evolving datasets and methodologies, the Analyst positions will apply strong analytical, modelling and data handling skills to identify trends and draw meaningful insights from forecasts. While the three roles are closely aligned, each will sit within a different Forecasting team—Sector Coupling, Gas Forecasting and Demand Forecasting—offering exposure to varied areas of the energy market while contributing to a shared, high-impact outcome.

These are great opportunities for individuals who enjoy solving complex problems, working with data, and contributing to work that has ongoing impact across AEMO’s planning and analytical functions.
