Court Services Victoria provides corporate services and facilities to support the performance of the judicial, quasi-judicial and administrative functions of Victoria's courts and tribunal, Judicial College and Judicial Commission.

Collectively, Victoria's Supreme, County, Magistrates', Children's, and Coroners courts, the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT), the Judicial College of Victoria, the Judicial Commission of Victoria, and Court Services Victoria (CSV) are referred to as the ‘Courts Group'.

The Magistrates' Court of Victoria (MCV) has a long history of providing justice for the people of Victoria in metropolitan and regional courts across the state. The MCV determines in excess of 200,000 cases per annum at 51 venues, dealing with over 90 percent of all adult cases that come before Victorian courts each year.

About the Role

The Registrar - Family Violence supports court users affected by family violence by coordinating services, facilitating referrals, and improving court processes through collaboration with legal and community stakeholders.

The position contributes to the Court's response to family violence, working alongside the judiciary, court registrars, support workers, police, legal services and other support services to effectively manage cases involving victims and perpetrators of family violence. Other key duties include:

  • Builds relationships with key stakeholders, establishes and maintains links with community services and agencies in their local area, promotes information sharing amongst agencies and makes appropriate referrals.
  • Provides a point of specialist contact for court users involved in proceedings arising from, including allegations of, family violence; assists parties to understand court processes and services available; and liaises with legal and non-legal support services.
  • Leads the Court's family violence function within their local area, working in partnership with senior management, including the Court Operations Unit, Senior Registrar (Loddon/Mallee Region), Registrar (Mildura), and the Family Violence Reform Branch.
  • Co-management, supervision, and performance monitoring of the Mildura Magistrates' Court family violence workforce, including Koori Family Violence Practitioners.

About You

  • Must be a qualified Court Registrar.
  • Certificate IV in Government (Court Services) or equivalent is desirable.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of family violence dynamics and the jurisdiction of the Magistrates' Court of Victoria.
  • The position operates within a complex, demanding and sensitive environment that requires the capacity to exercise sound judgement.
