The Role

We are currently seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Adaptive Reuse Team in Melbourne. Working with a specialist team of Engineers, Drafters and Project Managers, you will be responsible for technical design input, damage and condition assessment, strengthening, refurbishment and repurposing of existing buildings across Melbourne.

Your duties will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

  • Coordinating the structural assessment, design and documentation of adaptive reuse, refurbishment and redevelopment projects across a variety of building sectors including residential, commercial, industrial and health
  • Undertaking structural designs from initial concept through to detailed design, using first-principles approaches based on your understanding of structural engineering principles and materials, and software such as Space Gass, Structural Toolkit and RAPT
  • Reviewing structural designs, ensuring that analysis and design tasks undertaken meet appropriate technical standards and the requirements of the client and Robert Bird Group
  • Production of detailed sketches in Bluebeam PDF
  • Production of engineering reports and supporting tender proposals
  • Proactively collaborating with team members, contributors and stakeholders to maintain quality, timeliness and co-ordination of project deliverables
  • Supporting the successful technical delivery of projects and contributing to the continued growth and capability of the Adaptive Reuse Team
  • Client liaison, in conjunction with Project Directors and Associates, regarding current and future projects

About You

  • Relevant Engineering qualifications with a focus in Structural Engineering
  • 2+ years’ industry experience working within an engineering design consultancy
  • Experience working on adaptive reuse, refurbishment, strengthening or redevelopment projects, or an interest in working in these types of projects
  • Solid grounding in steel, concrete, timber and masonry design
  • Demonstrated design experience using relevant Structural software
  • Passionate about sustainability
  • Understanding of Australian codes and standards
  • Full working rights
