About the opportunity

As a Cloud Engineer, you will work in partnership with our Managed Service Provider to design, deploy, and operate secure, reliable, and highly available cloud infrastructure. You’ll play a key role as a subject matter expert across cloud platforms, infrastructure-as-code, and supporting toolsets, helping to enable effective and efficient technology operations.

Collaborating closely with internal technology teams and external vendors, you will contribute to the delivery of stable, scalable solutions that underpin business-critical services. This role provides broad exposure to AWS cloud technologies and offers the opportunity to drive continuous improvement while supporting the evolution of our platform capabilities and future initiatives. The role will suit applicants who will enjoy delivering to both BAU requirements and impactful project work.

Key accountabilities

  • Provides technical expertise to enable the correct application of operational procedures. Utilises infrastructure management tools to monitor performance statistics. Contributes to the planning and implementation of maintenance and installation activities, including the build and configuration of infrastructure components in virtualised environments.
  • Implements agreed infrastructure changes and maintenance routines, and configures automation tools to support provisioning, testing and deployment. Identifies operational problems and contributes to their resolution in line with agreed standards and procedures.
  • Provides reports and recommendations for improvement and engages with stakeholders.
  • Monitors digital and automated service channels, analysing performance data. Supports the development and application of service standards to resolve or escalate issues, and provides technical briefings to staff.
  • Develops and implements plans for complex changes, assessing risks to services integrity. Delivers approved changes, reviews outcomes, and recommends improvements to change management practices.
  • Monitors service component capacity and initiates actions to resolve any shortfalls in line with agreed procedures. Applies demand management techniques to optimise resource utilisation and supports capacity modelling, planning and design.

About you

You will be an experienced Cloud Engineer with a customer centric approach, having worked within a large, complex technical organisation.

In addition you will have highly developed organisational skills with the ability to work autonomously, prioritise tasks, work accurately with attention to detail, and meet deadlines.

Your strengths will also include your highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, along with your ability to manage expectations, resolve conflict and translate technical information into business language.

Additionally, you will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated experience developing and supporting enterprise AWS Cloud Platforms.
  • Extensive experience deploying and supporting DevOps technologies such as Jenkins, Cloud Formation, Kubernetes, Terraform, Ansible, etc.
  • Experience with migrating application workloads from on premise to AWS.
  • Ability to understand complex technical integrations and to work with external vendors and internal resolver groups to achieve an outcome.
  • Good understanding of ITIL processes such as Change Control, Incident Management, Problem Management and Service Transition.
