Building Decommissioning Officer

THE ROLE

The Decommissioning Officer is responsible for supporting the management and delivery of decommissioning works for high-rise towers under the direction of the High-Rise Decommissioning Manager. This role requires a proactive and flexible professional with experience in project coordination, including assisting with procurement, providing operational support, and maintaining positive stakeholder relationships to ensure project milestones are met.

The Decommissioning Officer assists with site management and supervises minor works contracts, monitoring contractors as they decommission critical assets. Key responsibilities include supporting procurement processes, supervising contractor performance on-site, performing contract administration tasks, and assisting with budget tracking and routine reporting.

Decommissioning deliverables for each tower will include

  • Strong Site Presence: Maintain a consistent presence on-site to supervise daily activities, monitor progress against schedules, and ensure all works comply with safety and quality standards.
  • Stakeholder Management: Maintain regular communication and build productive relationships with diverse and complex stakeholder groups-including redevelopment, relocations, local housing, and community cohorts-ensuring timely updates are provided and site-level issues are resolved to keep projects aligned.
  • Approach & Delivery: Support the implementation of tower-specific decommissioning strategies, supervising the delivery of works from early works phase through to successful completion.
  • Contract Supervision: Supervise head contractors and maintenance teams on-site to ensure minor works contracts are executed according to technical specifications and delivery standards.
  • Advisory & Reporting: Assist in the preparation of project documentation, including site reports, briefing notes, and status updates, to support senior management in broader agency reporting.

ACCOUNTABILITIES INCLUDE

(a) Assisting in the research, analysis, and implementation of project initiatives to achieve defined outcomes.

(b) Supporting the end-to-end delivery of projects or sub-projects, ensuring completion within established resourcing, timeline, and budget parameters.

(c) Contributing to robust monitoring and evaluation processes to ensure project alignment with departmental goals.

  • Maintain a strong site presence to oversee works in progress, ensuring operational standards are met and providing visible support to field-based teams.
  • Where responsible for overseeing or delivering projects, ensure all activities comply with relevant legislation, government regulations, and departmental guidelines.
