About The Role

A leading NSW Government agency is seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join their Management Reporting and Insurance team on a contract basis. In this hands-on role, you will ensure continuity of month-end and transaction-based financial activities during a period of increased volume and complexity driven by year-end reporting demands.

Working collaboratively across the finance function, you will provide immediate support across core financial accounting activities, enabling the team to meet statutory deadlines, maintain audit quality, and manage emerging workload pressures effectively.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and review general ledger journals, accruals, provisions, and adjustments within MyWorkZone
• Perform month-end and year-end financial close activities, including balance sheet and bank reconciliations
• Raise Purchase Orders, perform Goods Receipting, and submit invoices for processing and payment
• Conduct weekly and monthly audits of PCard transactions and Purchase Orders, ensuring accuracy and compliance
• Review and investigate Aged Debtors and provide commentary on potential debt write-offs
• Coordinate property deposits and settlement payments, liaising with Shared Services and Banking teams
• Support internal audits, financial compliance activities, and continuous improvement of finance processes
• Liaise with internal stakeholders and central agencies to support financial reporting and compliance outcomes

Essential Skills & Experience

• Relevant tertiary qualification in accounting, finance, or a related discipline
• Demonstrated experience in a similar financial accounting role within a large, complex organisation
• Strong knowledge of general ledger management, month-end close processes, and financial compliance requirements
• Experience with ERP or financial management systems (experience with MyWorkZone highly regarded)
• CA or CPA qualification desirable
