About The Role

We're expanding our program and looking for people from diverse backgrounds to help strengthen our presence across the city. As a Community Safety Officer, you’ll join a well-established, high-performing team dedicated to keeping Melbourne safe, welcoming, and vibrant!

This role suits individuals who are resilient, physically capable, and confident navigating complex situations. You’ll be comfortable working in public spaces, engaging with people from all walks of life, and responding to challenges with professionalism, sound judgement, and care.

We value a broad range of experiences. You may already work in community safety, enforcement, security, emergency services or another customer-facing role or thinking about a meaningful career change. We also encourage applications from those early in their careers who bring a positive mindset, transferable life experience, and a genuine interest in building a future in community safety.

In this role, you’ll undertake proactive patrols to help prevent issues before they arise, while responding confidently when needed. You’ll engage with residents, visitors, and local businesses—providing guidance, support, and, where necessary, applying legislation to support positive community outcomes. You’ll also work closely with Victoria Police and key partners.

We’re looking for people who are approachable, grounded, and adaptable—those who can remain calm under pressure, communicate respectfully, and bring a strong sense of purpose to supporting the community.

Why join Team Melbourne?

Located on the traditional lands of the Bunurong Boon Wurrung and Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nation, Melbourne is globally recognised as one of the most liveable, diverse, and dynamic cities.

At the heart of it all is the City of Melbourne – a passionate, purpose-driven organisation where your work truly matters. As part of Team Melbourne, you’ll help deliver what’s most important to the people who live, work, study, visit and invest in our great city.

We’re proud champions of diversity, committed to continuous improvement, and driven by a shared vision for a vibrant and sustainable future.

This is more than just a role – it’s your chance to make a real impact, contribute to something bigger, and shape Melbourne’s future alongside a collaborative and forward-thinking team.

About You

You thrive in community-focused roles and take pride in making a meaningful difference. Confident and approachable, you’re comfortable engaging with people from all walks of life. You remain calm under pressure, communicate clearly, and navigate challenging situations with professionalism and empathy.

You bring sound judgement, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to interpret and apply legislation. You work well within a team but are equally capable of operating independently and making informed decisions on the ground.

While experience in community safety, compliance, law enforcement, security, or customer-facing roles is an advantage, what matters most is your commitment to safety, resilience, and dedication to positive community outcomes. Physically fit and prepared for the active nature of the role, you bring energy, reliability, and a proactive attitude to every patrol and interaction.
