The Department of Treasury and Finance is at the centre of Government decision-making. As the principal economic and financial advisor, we provide leadership and strategic advice and influence to support the delivery of services and outcomes for the benefit of Western Australia.

What we do is integral to the Government’s decision-making processes about where and how to spend taxpayer’s money to ensure Western Australians have access to quality services on a financially sustainable basis.

We lead procurement and leverage our buying power to secure products and services for government, achieving value for money for WA.

We collect revenue to fund government services and administer payment of grants and subsidies to the WA community.

The work area

This role sits within the Data Science Unit of the Analytics, Digital Transformation and Strategic Projects Directorate which is part of the Advisory Services business unit. The Data Science Unit undertakes modelling of activity and financial impacts in diverse areas such as the health system, criminal justice, community services, transport, and more, including a range of bespoke modelling work.

The opportunity

Are you passionate about data and modelling? We are looking for a systems-minded person to join us and make a difference for Western Australia. In this role, you will:

  • Build predictive models of expenditure growth for large and complex government agencies;
  • Develop simulation and optimisation models to inform policy making and resource allocation decisions;
  • Adopt a data driven approach to evaluating the efficiency and effectiveness of major government policies and programs.

We currently have one (1) fixed term full-time position available for filling for up to 24 months within Analytics, Digital Transformation and Strategic Projects.
