Primary objective

Manage the development and delivery of assigned Capital Works and some Minor New Works projects to construct roads

and other civil assets in the Region, ensuring projects are delivered as defined by various Project Managers and to the

satisfaction of clients.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Contribute to the investigation, development and formulation of the civil asset construction programs for roads and other

civil assets in the region.

2. As Project Engineer, deliver assigned Capital Works and some Minor New Works projects in the region, ensuring projects

meet the client’s requirements in relation to time, cost and quality in accordance with briefs provided by Client

Departments.

3. Establish an excellent working relationship with clients and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, on all

matters relating to the projects and provide a high level of assistance on related matters that may be required to ensure

that projects are achieved.

4. Arrange clearances and authorisations to enable projects to proceed. Ensure all clearance requirements are identified and

addressed prior to contractors commencing work on site.

5. Carry out all duties in accordance with Departmental Health and Safety (WHS), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)

and environmental guidelines.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Relevant degree or a recognised tertiary qualification in Engineering, from an Australian tertiary institution, or equivalent,

and membership or eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia.

2. Good written and oral communications skills including the ability to prepare documentation for design, procurement,

project and contract management.

3. Good knowledge of road and civil industry design, construction and maintenance techniques and practices, including

roads, land servicing and hydraulics and best practice environmental management.

4. Well-developed information technology skills such as word processing and spreadsheet software as well as project

management and design tools.

5. Good working knowledge of the requirements of the relevant legislation as applied in the NT or similar jurisdictions as

well as a range of relevant Australian Standards, Codes of Practice and associated Guidelines.

6. An ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

7. Current Driver’s Licence.

Desirable

1. Diploma in Civil Construction Management, Government Contract or Project Management or similar.

2. Minimum 5 years industry experience preferred.
