What You Will Be Doing

They are currently seeking an experienced leading hand to oversee team in a workshop/yard environment based in Cairns. You will be working Monday Friday from 7:00am to 3:30pm. Daily duties would include:

  • Ensure all Health & Safety requirements are followed in accordance with company policies and the Safety Management System.
  • Lead and promote safe work practices within the branch, addressing any hazards or safety concerns promptly.
  • Supervise and coordinate permanent and casual yard/maintenance staff, ensuring all inductions, risk assessments, Safe Systems of Work, and forklift assessments are completed and signed off.
  • Provide leadership and supervision to maintenance teams to maintain fleet equipment and support operational requirements.
  • Oversee inspection and maintenance activities to ensure hire equipment is clean, serviceable, correctly packaged, and processed in line with company procedures.
  • Ensure unserviceable or obsolete equipment is removed from hire stock as required.
  • Lead and assist the yard team with daily operations including picking, packing, loading, unloading, and transfer preparation to meet project and transport timelines.
  • Monitor and support stock control activities including stocktakes, monthly stock checks, and order/return verification.
  • Work closely with sales and office teams to ensure customer orders are delivered accurately, in full, and on time.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of company technical data sheets and equipment documentation.
  • Participate in stocktaking and inventory management activities as required.
  • Provide professional and courteous assistance to customers, visitors, and drivers, ensuring site procedures are followed.
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and safe yard and warehouse environment, reporting shortages or issues to management.
  • Identify and recommend operational or yard improvements to enhance efficiency and customer service.
  • Carry out any other duties reasonably directed by supervisors or management.

What You Will Need

  • Current Drivers Licence and reliable transport to site
  • Forklift Licence
  • Experience in a similar role
  • Strong work ethic and commitment to safety
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment medical with drug & alcohol testing
