Primary objective

Provide high quality, culturally appropriate and effective oral health treatment, oral health promotion and specialist referrals to

eligible clients within scope of practice within the Top End, Big Rivers and East Arnhem regions of the Northern Territory.

Context statement

This position is based in Darwin/ Palmerston /Katherine dental clinic and provides outreach service to school or rural/remote

clinics throughout NT regions.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Independently provide high quality comprehensive clinical services to eligible clients in both urban and remote areas, sometimes

in a single chair clinic

2. Ensure clinical and corporate records are maintained, including accurate documentation and statistics.

3. In consultation with senior staff, develop, deliver and evaluate oral health promotion activities and participate in planned health

promotion programs.

4. Provide feedback to senior staff and management on program and clinical issues.

5. Contribute to the achievement of work unit goals and key performance indicators.

6. Undertake administrative duties required for the efficient operation of the service, including managing appointment schedules.

7. Actively participate in quality improvement activities including accreditation and staff development program

8. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken

to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

9. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour .

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as a Dental Therapist/Oral Health Therapist and

the ability to gain a radiographer’s permit in the Northern Territory (NT)

2. Demonstrated current evidence based clinical practices and techniques with an ability to prioritise clinical and administration

outcomes.

3. Demonstrated pro-active team member with a high standard of both conflict resolution and interpersonal skills.

4. Demonstrated high standard of cross-cultural awareness and an ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.

5. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in health promotion with the application of primary health care principles.

6. Demonstrated ability to utilise fundamental WHS and Infection Control policies and procedures into clinical practice.

7. Current NT driver’s licence or the ability to attain one with the ability to travel to remote areas by 4WD vehicle or light aircraft,

for periods of a Maximum 14 days at a time.

Selection will be made at the P1 or P2 level depending on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant.
