The Role
We're looking for a technically skilled and solutions-focused IoT Field Engineer to join our Operational Technologies team. Responsible for the optimisation of digital metering and connected IoT devices to ensure reliable and efficient operation. The role supports secure data collection and communications by monitoring device performance, troubleshooting field equipment, and maintaining connectivity across metering networks and supporting platforms. Working closely with operational and project teams, the position also ensures compliance with safety, cybersecurity, and asset management standards while contributing to the ongoing improvement of smart metering and IoT systems.
Your key responsibilities
- Manage and support digital water meters, IoT devices, and associated Operational Technology (OT) infrastructure to ensure reliable and accurate data collection.
- Assess, configure, commission, and securely onboard IoT devices into enterprise device management and head-end systems.
- Monitor platform and device health, perform troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and resolve connectivity, communication, and device performance issues.
- Support and maintain IoT communications networks, including gateways, protocols, coverage, and end-to-end connectivity between field devices and back-end systems.
- Deliver OT and IoT technology upgrades, renewals, and improvement projects across metering and operational platforms.
- Maintain and support integration between operational systems including SCADA, IoT management platforms, analytics, communications, and enterprise asset systems.
- Ensure cybersecurity policies, standards, and OT compliance requirements are incorporated into all IoT operations and field activities.
- Conduct field installation, testing, maintenance and commissioning of digital meters and associated hardware.
- Maintain accurate asset, metering, and field data across device management, asset management, and enterprise systems.
- Support safe field operations and compliance with WHS, operational standards, and customer service expectations.
What we're looking for
- Proven experience deploying, configuring and managing IoT devices and connected systems.
- Strong knowledge of IoT headend systems, device management platforms and communications technologies.
- Demonstrated capability in Root Cause Analysis, troubleshooting and complex problems solving.
- Experience in programming, data management and database administration.
- Broad understanding of industrial control systems, operational communications networks, and IoT technologies.
- Sound understanding of cybersecurity standards, controls, and compliance requirements within OT environments.
- Knowledge of OHS legislation, obligation and regulatory requirements.
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Information Technology or relevant fields.
- Current Victorian Driver's Licence.
Desirable Experience
- SCADA systems, including Aveva EcoStruxures, GeoSCADA Expert (ClearSCADA), Elastic and Kibana.
- Operational Historian platforms, such as Aveva OSI PI Historian.
- Project and program management practices.
- Procurement and contract management.
