Join Victoria Legal Aid's growing Family Law team in Gippsland and deliver expert family law services and strengthen access to justice across the region.

We're recruiting for two senior family lawyers , at Work Value Range 4.1 or 4.2 (depending on skills and experience) through a single, integrated process. Apply once to be considered for the level that best aligns with your experience and strengths.
What you'll do
As a Senior Family Lawyer (4.1) (Salary range: $104,925 - $122,409) , you will:
- Act as a duty lawyer in the Magistrates' Court of Victoria and the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, including through the Family Advocacy and Support Services (FASS) program
- Mentor and supervise junior lawyers in the team
- Contribute to community legal education, and participate in policy and law reform initiatives
As an Expert Senior Family Lawyer (4.2) (salary range: $113,668 - $131,153) , you'll do all the above plus:
- Provide technical leadership and advanced advocacy in complex family law and family violence matters
- Supervise, mentor, and support junior lawyers in the office
- Lead strategic legal initiatives, law reform, and practice development projects
This role is based at either our Bairnsdale or Morwell offices on Gunai Kurnai Country and travel across the region is required.
About YouAs Our Ideal Candidate, You Will Possess
- Strong knowledge of family law, family violence, and child protection law, with experience in relevant court processes.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse clients, particularly those facing social and economic disadvantage.
- The ability to supervise and mentor junior legal staff and contribute to the development of training and educational programs.
- A current Unrestricted Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner (mandatory).
- Entitled to practise in federal courts and courts exercising federal jurisdiction (entry on the High Court's Register of Practitioners) (mandatory).
