Located in Bendigo, as a local you will be familiar with the locality and ready to use your previous expertise as our newest FSO.

You will use the knowledge you have acquired through formal training or extensive on-the-job experience, you understand and are able to evaluate technical information related to the job and share and advise key stake holders on technical issues to rectify, prevent and/or maintain fire safety concerns.

About the Role

Join Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) in this permanent role and help ensure that land use and building environments across Victoria meet essential fire safety standards.

As a Fire Safety Officer, you’ll apply your technical expertise and regulatory knowledge to assess developments, conduct inspections, and provide critical fire safety advice.

You’ll collaborate with planning authorities, emergency services, and the community to influence safer design outcomes and support FRV/CFA’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and the environment.

Functional Accountabilities include

· Review and assess applications for building and occupancy permits and provide a report in accordance with Regulation 129/187.

· Monitor and inspect existing buildings and new projects in the region, to ensure construction in accordance with fire safety requirements

· Provide a response to enquiries from applicants, town planners, building surveyors or Local Government as required.

· Assess land use planning applications, inspect relevant sites where appropriate and provide a response to Local Government as required.

· Provide technical advice to the development and promotion of relevant policies, procedures and guidance as required.

What you will need to Succeed

To be successful in this position, you will have:

· Relevant tertiary qualifications (i.e., town planning, building surveying, fire engineering, public safety or community safety or similar), desirable.

· Demonstrated fire safety experience in the building industry.

· Proven experience in Land Use Planning with an understanding of the Victorian Planning Provisions.

· Proven structural environment experience.

· Understanding of operational firefighting and/or emergency services (desirable).

· Well-developed communication skills (written and verbal) and ability to develop and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

· Demonstrated ability to work effectively with competing priorities and time frames.

FRV’s standard practice is to appoint at the base of the salary range, however consideration will be given to an above base salary within the advertised range based on the successful candidate’s skills and experience.
