The Opportunity

ICON’s drafting team works across a wide scope, subsea equipment, topsides modifications, offshore structures, and brownfields installations, and this role sits at the top of it. You’ll take ownership of the drafting output on complex, multi-discipline scopes, mentor the team around you, and own the quality of what comes out.

The Role

Reporting to the Drafting Manager, you’ll be a senior technical authority in the drafting team, accountable for output quality, drawing register management, and the supervision of CAD Designers across project scopes. That means producing and checking complex drawings yourself, assigning and monitoring work across the team, collaborating on resource scheduling, and making sure QA requirements are met without being chased. The project scope spans subsea, topsides, and brownfields, the variety is genuine and the complexity is real.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce and check complex CAD drawings and 3D models across subsea, topsides, and brownfields scopes, from concept through to fabrication and installation-ready deliverables.
• Supervise, instruct, and monitor a project team of CAD Designers, assigning tasks clearly and holding the team to schedule and quality standards.
• Collaborate with the Drafting Manager to schedule design resource requirements and ensure timely delivery of drawing packages.
• Manage Drawing Registers (MDR) and document control in accordance with QA procedures; own compliance with approved design standards.
• Develop designs from engineer sketches across complex structural, mechanical, and installation scopes with minimal supervision.
• Conduct inter-departmental checks and clash detection reviews; review and comment on fabrication and specialist drawings.
• Mentor and develop junior designers, building capability in the team, not just managing their output.

What We’re Looking For

Essential

• 10+ years’ drafting experience, with a background in oil and gas, offshore, or resources engineering.
• Full proficiency in AutoCAD, Inventor, and Vault; working knowledge of Navisworks.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise and lead a project drafting team, task assignment, schedule management, QA compliance.
• Strong structural and/or mechanical steel detailing expertise, including complex offshore and subsea scopes.
• Diploma or equivalent qualification in Drafting or a related field.
• Ability to mentor junior designers in technical accuracy and drawing standards.

Desirable

• Experience with 3D data capture, laser scanning, and point cloud processing (ReCAP or equivalent).
• Exposure to offshore installation drawing packages, rigging arrangements, storyboards, lift plans, field layouts.
• Familiarity with Master Document Register (MDR) management on multi-discipline projects.
