Contract Data Engineer (Mid-level): Expression of interest

Advancer is Brisbane’s AI agency for mid-market transformation. We build production AI Lakehouses and enterprise data pipelines that connect fragmented systems enabling businesses and autonomous AI agents to unlock new levels of performance.

We’re looking for someone to help us achieve this goal as soon as possible.

The Opportunity

We win fast-moving data transformation projects for mid-market clients across Queensland and nationally. Our current active engagements span AI Lakehouse builds, omni-channel AI agent platforms and multi-system data integration, built on GCP and deployed across modern cloud lakehouse architectures.

When a project kicks off, we want proven specialists already briefed and ready to go with an excellent data approach to real world tasks.

• Position: Contract Data Engineer (Mid-level)

• Contract Model: Project-by-project (varying durations, typically 2 to 12 weeks)

• Location: Hybrid - Fortitude Valley, Brisbane, onsite at clients, work from home - highly flexible

• Rate: Industry daily/project rates, paid promptly

What You’ll Be Working On

You’ll be hands-on in live client environments from the outset.

Cloud Lakehouse Builds & Support

Deploy and configure enterprise data lakehouse environments for mid-market and enterprise clients. Manage multi-tenant architecture, user onboarding, enterprise identity integration (SSO/SAML/Microsoft Entra), and AI agent data connectivity.

GCP & BigQuery Engineering

Architect high-performance data repositories in Google Cloud Platform. Optimise BigQuery environments for cost, performance and AI readiness. Our clients run GCP-native and this is the core stack.

Pipeline Design & Deployment

Build and maintain reliable, multi-cloud data pipelines (GCP-primary, AWS-secondary). Design ingestion, transformation and serving layers that feed both BI tools and autonomous AI agents.

AI-Ready Data Architecture

Structure, clean and prepare enterprise datasets to feed custom AI models and Advancer’s AI agent stack. You’ll work directly alongside our AI engineers, the data you ship powers the agents we deploy.

Client-Facing Delivery

You’ll be comfortable presenting architecture decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike including direct client engagement on project-based engagements.

What We’re Looking For

Must-haves

• 3+ years professional data engineering experience, you will hit the ground running

• Strong GCP and BigQuery production experience, primary stack across all current engagements

• Python and advanced SQL clean, modular, production-grade code

• Hands-on experience with enterprise cloud lakehouse platforms

• Comfortable in client-facing environments, you can meet with clients and explain a data architecture to a CFO and a CTO in the same meeting

• Full working rights in Australia are required.

Strong advantages

• Enterprise SSO/SAML configuration and identity integration (Google and Microsoft Entra)

• AI agent data connectivity and MCP server integration experience

• Google Cloud or AWS ecosystem (S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift, Lambda)

• Tools like dbt, Apache Airflow, or Docker

• Experience in a consulting or agency environment, not just in-house
