Primary objective

Provide high quality specialist care to patients at Alice Springs Hospital, Alice Springs and Barkly regions, and fringe areas of

Western Australia and South Australia

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Provide strong leadership and ensure the provision of high quality care for patients in the Intensive Care Unit.

2. Participate in relevant Hospital committees and in other administrative duties as required from time to time and provide

advice to the Executive Director of Medical & Clinical Services on matters relating to Department of Surgery.

3. Initiate and partake in quality management, peer review and ongoing personal medical education programs, and

undertake research as appropriate.

4. Participate in the on-call roster as required to ensure the proper functioning of the hospital.

5. Ensure adequate supervision of and participation in teaching programs for junior medical staff and medical students.

6. Undertake Clinical Audit activities and research as appropriate.

7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being

undertaken in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.

8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership practices and role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Eligible for specialist medical registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

2. Appropriate specialist qualifications or equivalent of full time service in medical practice as a Specialist medical Officer

or eligible for Fellowship with Intensive Care Medicine of Australia and New Zealand (FCICM)

3. Demonstrated ability to manage full complexity of critically ill patients

4. Interest in Indigenous health, and an ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.

5. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to interact positively and effectively in a

cross-cultural work environment, as a team member and with people of diverse cultures

6. Ability to work effectively as part of the multi-disciplinary team and an interest in and a commitment to improving

Aboriginal health.

7. Ability to assume administrative and supervisory responsibilities

8. Demonstrated initiative and ability motivate others and to directly manage performance of junior staff and a commitment

to continuing education, and research.
