Primary objective
Accompany and provide support to all remote health centre staff attending to routine and after-hours emergency call outs,
supporting operational requirements and assist with staff transport to and from remote communities as required.
Context statement
This position is located within the Primary Health Care Grounds Transport Section based in Alice Springs.
This role requires the Second Responder to travel to various remote communities to support staff at our Primary Health Care
Clinics. The position is entitled to travel allowances and allowances associated with callouts during their placement in remote
communities.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Participate in a casual roster and accompany all Health Centre Staff attending to routine and after-hours emergency callouts.
2. Undertake driving duties including participation in emergency transfers of clients to other communities and centres.
3. Provide any required support and assistance to Health Centre staff during the callouts including assisting with transferring of
client to stretchers and the provision of basic first aid.
4. Undertake basic vehicle maintenance, attend to minor property and ground maintenance and provide administration support
as directed by the Clinic Manager.
5. Assist with communicating operational requirements to clients and operate allocated telecommunication equipment effectively.
6. Assist with the transport of staff to and from remote communities and complete time sheet documentation for on-call and
after-hours work
7. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken
in order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Must have current manual NT Drivers’ Licence or the ability to obtain one.
2. Ability to undertake mandatory agency training requirements.
3. Demonstrated initiative, reliability and ability to work as an effective team member.
4. Demonstrated history and knowledge of the local community with an awareness of local issues that could impact upon the
delivery of health care.
5. Ability to communicate effectively with people from diverse cultures.
6. Preparedness and capacity to participate in a rotating roster for second responder’s and willingness to stay in remote areas for
extended periods of time.
Desirable
1. Current First Aid Certificate.
2. Previous experience travelling to and from remote communities and recent completion of a 4WD course.
