Business Development Manager – Commercial Painting (Melbourne)
Join Higgins Coatings—Australia’s premier commercial painting contractor and proudly family-owned for 75+ years. We’re growing strongly across the Wide Bay region and looking for a business development professional who enjoys getting out and meeting people, building relationships and bringing in new commercial work.
About The Role
You’ll work closely with the Branch Manager and the wider team to bring in new commercial opportunities across the Melbourne region. This is a new-business role (rather than account management), so you’ll spend plenty of time introducing Higgins, understanding what clients need and putting forward practical solutions.
- Territory: Melbourne (you’ll be on the road locally, meeting clients and visiting sites)
- Support: you won’t be on your own—we have a dedicated sales mentor for support you, estimating/scoping training and help putting proposals together
- Focus: building a strong pipeline, pricing/tendering work, and helping us win the right projects

What Success Looks Like
- Consistently generating new opportunities and winning work through genuine relationships and regular follow-up.
- Building long-term relationships with key decision-makers and representing Higgins at networking/industry events.
- Measuring and scoping projects for quoting (training and support provided).
- Preparing and presenting solution-based proposals, quotes and tender responses.
What You’ll Bring
- Proven experience in B2B solution selling and winning new business.
- Confidence to research, identify and qualify new prospects (phone, site visits and referrals).
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trust, influence decisions and develop long-term relationships.
- Resilience, self-motivation and a disciplined approach to achieving targets.
- CRM proficiency and a consistent cadence of activity to manage your pipeline end-to-end.
- Nice to have - experience in commercial painting, facilities maintenance, construction, building, or similar industries.
