Sandfire’s Projects and Studies team have been successful in delivering critically important projects for the organisation. Having entered an exciting partnership with Havilah Resources to advance the Kalkaroo Copper-Gold Project in South Australia, there now exists an opportunity for a Commercial Manager to join the Projects and Studies team to work with internal and external stakeholders, providing guidance and commercial focus for all corporately managed projects and studies.
This role requires a balance of strategic thinking with hands‑on execution. Leading a small team in the Projects and Studies group, this role will have a major focus on the Kalkaroo Copper‑Gold Project, whilst also supporting additional projects across the organisation. The ideal candidate brings 10 years of experience in finance, accounting, operations, or contract management within natural resource exploration and development, along with a track record in major capital projects across study and execution phases.
Duties/ Responsibilities (include But Are Not Limited To)
- Global commercial support for all corporately managed Sandfire Projects and Studies
- Development of multi-currency budgets and forecasts with project teams
- Cost control and analysis
- Preparation and communication of reports for executive leadership and JV Partners
- Co-ordination and delivery of Project Financial Models to support PFS and FS level studies.
- Provide leadership in negotiating and managing high-value contracts in multiple jurisdictions
- Development of commercial agreements with suppliers
- Develop commercial insights to assist with long term strategic decisions
- Collaboration & coaching with project teams on commercial processes, aligning financial objectives and project outcomes
- Assist project teams to ensure commercial considerations are embedded in planning processesCo-ordination with (internal) procurement, finance and legal teams to support regional activities
- Ensure Group risk standards are supported through robust commercial risk management procedures
- Co-ordination of Independent project technical and commercial reviews to support financing processes
- Involvement in special projects – eg acquisitions/divestments
About You
- Tertiary degree in Commerce or related, Chartered Accountant/CPA or equivalent financial qualification
- Excellent financial analysis, budgeting & forecasting skills
- Focus on delivery of value & understanding of risk allocation
- Understanding of risk management across global mining jurisdictions
- Commercial experience in negotiating, executing and managing joint venture and other commercial agreements
- Ability to manage multiple projects
- Strong leadership and mentoring skills
