This role sits at the centre of our Future Business function. You will make sense of what Defence is really doing across customers, competitors and emerging opportunities, turning scattered inputs into clear, usable insight. Your work will directly support leadership to decide where we play and why. This is not a reporting role. You will shape strategy, pipeline and pursue decisions, with visibility across the full picture, not just a slice.
You will work closely with senior leaders and key stakeholders in Canberra. Therefore, the preference is for this role to site in Canberra to maximise mentoring and access, although Brisbane is possible with regular travel. NV1 clearance is required.
Key Responsibilities

- Track Defence activity, tenders and competitor moves
- Deliver fast briefs on new opportunities
- Provide clear customer and competitor insights
- Support Black Hat and win strategy
- Enable evidence‑based decisions for leadership
- Build and visualise pipeline insight across NGA
About You
You bring a Defence background and strong analytical thinking, with an ability to connect operational reality to business outcomes. You’re at your best when turning complex inputs into clear, usable insight that informs real decisions.
You’ll ideally bring:
- Experience in Defence operations and/or Defence capability procurement
- Strong understanding of National Defence, Defence Industry strategies and related Investment Programs
- Understanding of Defence capability procurement processes
- Confidence briefing senior stakeholders with clear, practical advice
- The ability to distil complex information into simple, actionable outputs
- A data‑driven mindset, balanced with sound judgement and intuition
- A desire for greater influence across strategy, not just reporting
