About the Role

We’re looking for a highly organised, detail-obsessed Assistant Designer to be the operational backbone of our design team. You’ll work closely with the Senior Designer across the full product lifecycle from initial concept and development through to sampling, ranging, and launch.

This is a role for someone who loves both the creative and operational sides of design: someone who notices the details others miss, stays one step ahead, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

Design & Development

  • Assist with trend and market research, mood boards, colour palettes, and seasonal inspiration
  • Create technical CADs, range pages, and specification sheets
  • Preparation of development briefs for suppliers
  • Assist in fabric, trim, and material sourcing as required
  • Track development samples
  • Maintain accurate records of lab dips, strike-offs, and tech pack submissions and approvals
  • Support supplier communication, costing inputs, and product approvals

Product Systems & Organisation

  • Maintain product data in AP21 and Clo-set, or equivalent systems
  • Update BOMs, colourways, and style information, keeping files clean and current
  • Manage WIP tracking, sample logs, and critical path updates across the team

Admin & Coordination

  • Provide day-to-day administrative support to the Senior Designer
  • Prepare documentation for range and buy meetings
  • Keep design sample areas organised and up to date
  • Support additional design projects and administrative tasks as needed

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Essential

  • 1–3 years’ experience in a design, product development, or creative support role (internships considered)
  • Diploma or degree in Fashion Design, Product Development, or similar discipline
  • Strong Adobe Illustrator skills — confident creating technical CADs and spec sheets
  • Solid understanding of garment construction, fit, and textiles
  • Experience managing sample tracking and critical path admin
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office / Google Workspace
  • Exceptional organisational skills and obsessive attention to detail
  • Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment
  • Clear, professional communicator — written and verbal

WHO THRIVES HERE

The right person for this role is detail-obsessed but not rigid, creative but operationally sharp. You’re calm under pressure, one step ahead of the team, and you take genuine pride in keeping things running smoothly. You have strong taste and curiosity, communicate with confidence, and bring a solutions-focused, team-first mindset to everything you do.

Perks & Benefits

As part of the APG family, you’ll enjoy:

  • 50% off all our brands
  • Flexible working options – hybrid WFH and beautiful studio/office space
  • 4pm Friday finishes and true work/life balance
  • Birthday leave + monthly social events, morning teas & more
  • Employee Assistance Program for you and your family
  • Paid Parental Leave
