Overview
Air Lift Systems Program Office (ALSPO), within Airlift and Tanker Systems (ATS) Branch, Capability Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG), is seeking an experienced Cost Analyst to support the transition and retirement activities associated with the Royal Australian Air Force C‑130J‑30 fleet under AIR7404.
This position will play a critical role supporting Defence sustainment and commercial activities through detailed cost analysis, financial investigations, contract reform activities, and strategic financial reporting within a complex Defence environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Conduct complex pricing and cost analysis activities, including Annual Cost Reviews
- Develop cost estimates supporting current and future sustainment budgets
- Lead detailed financial investigations and provide strategic financial recommendations
- Support contract negotiations and change proposals relating to financial matters
- Prepare and present cost analysis reports to senior Defence stakeholders
- Break down Through Life Support (TLS) pricing structures using existing data sources
- Support the 2026 Periodic Cost Review and Contract Reform activities
- Engage with stakeholders across CASG, DFG, CFA and NGA
- Participate in Phase Out Planning workshops
- Utilise advanced Excel and Power Platform tools including Power Query
- Analyse complex datasets to support decision-making and performance reporting
- Support continuous improvement and process optimisation initiatives
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 10+ years' Defence experience
- Demonstrated experience in Cost Analysis within Defence or complex commercial environments
- Strong Defence stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Knowledge of Defence writing standards and internal Defence processes
- Ability to operate autonomously and manage competing priorities
- Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills
- Advanced Excel capabilities for financial modelling and analysis
- Experience working with complex financial and contractual datasets
Desirable Experience
- Through Life Support (TLS) contract experience
- Defence sustainment or acquisition program experience
- Contract reform and value-for-money assessment exposure
- Experience with Power Query and Power Platform tools
- Knowledge transfer and mentoring capability
- Experience within Air Mobility or Aerospace programs
Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business or related discipline
- CPA, CA or CIMA certification highly regarded
- Defence or Government procurement qualifications advantageous
