The Early Career Midwife (ECM) rotational position is a 12-month full-time program designed to support the development of early career midwives across the continuum of maternity care.

The role provides a unique opportunity to gain experience within both the MAPS Model of Care and the Birthing Unit, working seven days per fortnight within Maternity Antenatal and Postnatal Service (MAPS) and three days per fortnight within the Birthing Unit, including participation in pro rata night shifts.

ECMs will undertake a supported reduced caseload within the MAPS Model of Care, providing antenatal and postnatal care, including postnatal home visits, while also developing acute intrapartum skills within the Birthing Unit.

The rotational program is available to early career midwives internal or external to ISLHD who are able to work full-time for the duration of the program. Positions are temporary rotational appointments and are not permanent positions within MAPS or the Birthing Unit.

The program includes ongoing education and professional development through the ISLHD ECM program and ICARE workshops, with support provided by the Midwifery Unit Managers across both clinical areas.
