This role supports Climate Services, contributing to climate science initiatives across Pacific Island nations. The position focuses on developing high-quality climate datasets, maintaining their portal, and analysing climate variability and extreme events.
In this role you will,
- Maintain and enhance the Climate Indices for Pacific Sectorial Applications (CIPSA) portal.
- Develop and manage high-quality, quality-controlled climate datasets.
- Analyse climate trends, variability, and extreme weather patterns in the Pacific region.
- Produce scientific papers, reports, and insights for stakeholders.
- Deliver training and knowledge-sharing sessions to Pacific stakeholders.
- Collaborate with international and regional partners including local organizations.
- Contribute to research discussions, reporting, and program delivery.
What you need to succeed
- Strong background in climate science and climate change analysis.
- Good knowledge of meteorological datasets and data quality/homogeneity challenges.
- Experience in statistical analysis and handling large datasets.
- Proficiency in scientific programming and data analysis tools.
- Understanding of climate variability, extreme events, and Pacific region dynamics.
- Ability to communicate complex findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Must be eligible for Baseline Security Clearance.
