The StEPS program aims to actively identify childhood vision problems as early as possible and refer children with potential vision problems to an eye health professional for a diagnostic assessment. About the role:

  • Ability to conduct the Statewide Eyesight Preschooler Screening (StEPS) vision screening in clinics, pre schools, day care centres to 4 year old children who reside in the SWSLHD.
  • Applicant will need to have experience working with computers.
  • Opportunity to have work life balance, day shifts available. Candidate must be available to work on a Monday.

Selection Criteria

To help us assess your suitability for the role, please tell us as much as you can about yourself in response to the questions below.

  • Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Please describe your recent experience as a Registered Nurse working with parents and young children. In your response, outline your current AHPRA registration, how you provide safe, compassionate and culturally responsive care in environments of minimal supervision and rapid change, and your experience in visual acuity screening and delivering the StEPS program.
  • Provide an example that demonstrates your ability to communicate effectively with patients/consumers, carers and the multidisciplinary team. Include how you use computer systems (e.g., Microsoft Office, eMR), resolve conflict professionally, apply critical thinking and data collection tools, and contribute to risk management, WHS and quality improvement activities.
  • Applicants must possess an Australian C-Class driver's license (including P1 or P2). Those who hold a C class license (P1 or P2 included) from a state other than NSW must obtain a NSW C class (P1 or P2 included) license within three months of appointment. Learner's licenses are not permitted.
