The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Wellbeing Directorate plays a vital role within Central Queensland Hospital and Health Service (CQHHS). Grounded in cultural respect and community connection, the Directorate provides expert guidance to support culturally safe and responsive healthcare planning, workforce development, and service delivery.

Working in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, the team is committed to improving access to care, strengthening health experiences, and achieving better health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

About the role:

  • Provide culturally safe support, advocacy, and care coordination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients, families, and carers accessing CQHHS services.
  • Assist patients to navigate the healthcare system through discharge planning, explaining medical information, and connecting with family and community supports.
  • Advocate for culturally capable healthcare by contributing a cultural lens to case conferences, care planning, and multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Support and educate staff to strengthen understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, beliefs, and healthcare needs.
  • Build strong community connections, identify gaps in service delivery, maintain culturally relevant health resources, and contribute to a collaborative team environment.

About you:

  • As the successful applicant, you will hold, or be willing to complete, a Certificate IV, Diploma, or higher qualification in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care, health, community services, or a related field relevant to the role.
  • Applicants with relevant knowledge, skills, and experience who are committed to obtaining the required qualification within an agreed timeframe are encouraged to apply.
  • This is an identified position under Section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), and applicants must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain strong links within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community and with relevant organisations and demonstrate a sound knowledge of Indigenous culture and protocols.

Total monthly remuneration value of up to $9,816 p.m. is comprised of:

  • An hourly rate between $39.00 - $52.06 p.h.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
  • 17.5% leave loading
