Introduction

Australia’s acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is historic and transformational. The Optimal Pathway announced on 14 March 2023, will deliver Australia a world-class capability that will see our nation become one of only seven countries that operate nuclear-powered submarines. This game changing capability will enhance Australia’s capacity to deter conflict and support security, peace and economic prosperity in the Indo-Pacific.

This significant undertaking presents an exciting opportunity for dedicated, committed and aspirational leaders to lead, develop and shape the Australian Nuclear Submarine Program.

Your Role

As Assistant Director General, Commercial, you will provide strategic commercial leadership across the ASA to enable effective, compliant and value-for-money procurement and contracting outcomes for the Nuclear-Powered Submarine Program.

In this pivotal role, you will set the ASA’s portfolio commercial strategy, implement robust policy and assurance frameworks, drive probity and integrity, and manage commercial risk to support timely, efficient, and secure delivery of outcomes. You will build commercial capability across the Program, coordinate support for complex and strategic procurements, and ensure the Commonwealth’s obligations and standards are met throughout the lifecycle.

Your leadership will be critical in shaping commercial models, unlocking cross-program synergies, and strengthening partnerships with industry and government to deliver on Program priorities.
