Details: Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) is looking for an experienced Operations Manager to join the CIT facilities team. We are looking to fill a temporary position within the Facilities team and to build a merit pool for future expected temporary and permanent vacancies across the branch.
WHAT DO WE WANT?
CIT is seeking an experienced and suitably qualified facilities and operations management professional to fill the position of Operations Manager within CIT facilities. The primary focus of the role is to lead and coordinate the delivery of campus facilities operations across CIT, including preventive and reactive maintenance, building security and access, contractor performance, and compliance with legislative, work health and safety, and emergency management requirements, operating within a multicampus service delivery environment.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
As a member of the CIT facilities team, you will play a crucial role in supporting teaching, learning and business operations by ensuring the effective delivery of facilities services across the institute. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Facilities, you will be responsible for providing high level operational leadership in the coordination of campus based facilities activities, including preventive and reactive maintenance, building security and access, and compliance with legislative, work health and safety, and emergency management requirements.
Following the successful transition to the new Woden campus, this role will provide critical support in the management of defects liability and commissioning processes, working closely with stakeholders and service providers to address defects, resolve commissioning issues, and ensure assets are operating as intended. The role is required to liaise extensively with internal stakeholders, contractors and ACT Government agencies to deliver safe, compliant and customer focused facilities outcomes, and to provide sound, practical operational advice and solutions in a complex, multicampus environment.
The work will be varied, and in addition to leading day to day facilities operations, the role will support the Senior Manager, Facilities as directed, including contributing to business planning, performance and compliance reporting, policy and procedural development, contractor and project oversight, and ad hoc initiatives across the Facilities portfolio.
WHAT DO I NEED?
To be successful in this position, you will need to have experience across a broad range of facilities or campus operations functions, including a sound understanding of facilities management practices, legislative and work health and safety obligations, and emergency management requirements. You will have the ability to interpret complex information, provide timely and practical advice to a wide range of stakeholders, and deliver high‑quality, customer‑focused services in a dynamic operational environment.
The role operates with a high degree of autonomy and often involves managing competing priorities and time‑critical issues, requiring strong problem‑solving skills, sound judgement, and the ability to prioritise work activities effectively. You will bring demonstrated people leadership capability, including experience managing and supporting operational managers and staff, overseeing workforce matters such as leave management, performance and wellbeing, and fostering a positive, engaged and accountable team culture.
You will also have the ability to motivate and develop staff through targeted professional development, skills uplift and capability‑building initiatives, ensuring the team is well positioned to meet current operational demands and future service delivery requirements. Experience in a similar operational leadership or facilities management role will be highly regarded.
