Details: ACT Corrective Services is looking for a suitably qualified person to fill the role of Clinician/Occupational Therapist - Health Professional (HP2), within Offender Reintegration.
Through sound knowledge of evidence-based practices and the principles of best practice intervention, the HP2 Clinician will support detainees who present with disability, ageing, mental health and other complex needs whilst in the justice system. The HP2 Clinician will engage with detainees using trauma informed practices to actively promote rehabilitation, community connections and reintegration.
The successful applicant will contribute to, and coordinate complex NDIS referrals and complex assessments, including but not limited to functional capacity assessments and cognitive ability screening, to ensure detainees access required support upon release.
Further to this, you will support the planning, development and evaluation of client programs and services, including policy and procedures, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. This includes supporting research and promoting current evidence-based practice in the areas relevant to clinical expertise – particularly mental health and offence specific interventions.
To be successful, you will have demonstrated clinical experience, personal integrity, self-confidence and exceptional communication skills. In addition, an interest in rehabilitation, community connections, reintegration and the ability to operate effectively in a team, as well as having the capacity to deal with people from a wide range of cultures and backgrounds, is essential.

Eligibility/Other Requirements
- Relevant qualification in Occupational Therapy is essential.
- Current professional registration: Occupational Therapist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Capacity to provide the lifting required for handling and positioning inherent in clinical intervention of clients and trial of equipment, in accordance with the relevant Workplace Health and Safety standards.
- Applicants must have a minimum of 12 months paid work employment, post qualification, in a relevant role.
- Experience in individual Occupational Therapy with a wide range of clients with identified needs is desirable.
- Experience within a forensic/custodial setting is desirable.
- This position requires a Police Record Check.
- A current driver’s licence (Class ‘C’ is essential).
- This position requires a pre-employment medical.

- To be eligible for permanent or temporary employment within the ACT Public Service (ACTPS) you must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident or hold a valid work visa.
- If an officer no longer holds a visa that permits them to work in Australia, their employment with the ACT Public Service (ACTPS) will be terminated.
