POSITION DESCRIPTION
Based in Townsville, this role is responsible for the delivery of civil engineering design and documentation for urban development, transport, infrastructure and land development projects. The role involves preparing detailed civil designs, coordinating project inputs, liaising with stakeholders, and supporting project delivery from concept through to construction documentation.
The position requires a strong technical understanding of civil infrastructure design principles, proficiency in relevant design software, and the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams while mentoring junior staff.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Civil Design & Documentation
- Prepare civil engineering designs and documentation for urban development, commercial, transport and infrastructure projects using AutoCAD, 12d Model, Autodesk Civil 3D and other relevant design software.
- Roads and intersections
- Stormwater drainage systems
- Bulk earthworks
- Sewer reticulation
- Water reticulation
- Produce detailed engineering drawings, reports, specifications and supporting documentation.
- Apply sound engineering principles relating to hydrology, hydraulics, earthworks and geotechnical considerations.
- Undertake engineering calculations, design reviews and verification checks in accordance with Company quality assurance procedures.
- Ensure constructability, functionality and compliance considerations are incorporated into project designs.
Project Coordination & Delivery
- Assist in project planning, including monitoring project schedules, resources and key milestones.
- Participate in and contribute to project and design coordination meetings.
- Coordinate specialist subconsultants and external service providers relevant to project delivery.
- Coordinate utility investigations and utility service design to integrate with civil infrastructure designs.
- Monitor project progress and communicate design or delivery issues to the Project Manager or Lead Engineer.
- Assist in identifying and resolving design issues throughout project delivery.
Stakeholder Liaison
- Liaise with clients, developers, local authorities, government agencies and other stakeholders throughout project delivery.
- Assist in obtaining relevant approvals and ensuring statutory and regulatory requirements are addressed within project designs.
- Conduct site inspections and site visits to identify constraints, assess existing conditions and support project outcomes.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all work is completed in accordance with Company quality management systems and procedures.
- Maintain awareness of relevant engineering standards, guidelines and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure safety, environmental and risk management considerations are incorporated into project delivery and design outcomes.
Team Contribution & Mentoring
- Provide support, mentoring and technical guidance to junior designers and engineering staff.
- Contribute positively to the wider team environment and promote collaboration across projects and disciplines.
- Assist in developing efficient design workflows and continuous improvement initiatives.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Diploma in Civil Engineering and/or equivalent tertiary qualification.
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in civil engineering design and drafting within an engineering consultancy environment.

- Utility coordination
- High proficiency in 12d Model and/or Autodesk Civil 3D, including drainage design modules.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Sound understanding of relevant engineering standards, guidelines and approval processes.
- Knowledge of local authority and state government regulatory requirements.
- Strong communication and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively to project deadlines
Desirable
- Experience in multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
- Experience mentoring junior staff.
- Knowledge of construction methodologies and constructability principles.
- Familiarity with Queensland local government and infrastructure authority standards and approvals processes.
