An exciting career awaits you at ASC, Australia's submarine company - the sustainer of Australia's conventionally armed, nuclear-powered submarines in the AUKUS partnership. To deliver on this new and exciting work, we are seeking skilled trades individuals to undertake long-term, world-leading training in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, U.S.
Placements are available in November and will be approximately 3 years in duration
Responsibilities
As a Seal Welder you will:
- Perform high-integrity, high-precision welds on nuclear piping and pressure vessels, including reactor plant systems that meet stringent NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) acceptance standards.
- Read and interpret blueprints, shipboard installation drawings, and technical manuals.
- Execute Specialized Class P-1 piping welds and seal welds on high-pressure, high-temperature components that carry volatile materials.
- Work within nuclear radiological areas (radioactive controlled areas) following strict safety procedures.
- Adhere strictly to NAVSEA technical specifications and Technical Work Documents (TWDs) for reactor plant cleanliness and quality.
- Utilise the usage of portable equipment such as grinders, sanders, drills and other special tools manufactured for accomplishing the job.
- Be familiar with electrode requirements pertaining to storage, labelling and control of temperature of electrodes to the point of end usage.
- Takes precautionary measures to prevent fires and observe all safety precautions.
Eligibility Criteria
The successful applicant must possess:
- Australian Citizenship
- Relevant Fabrication Trade Qualification is essential
- 4 - 6 years of experience in welding and metal fabrication, preferably in marine or heavy industrial environments (desirable)
- An ability to obtain and maintain a NV1 defence clearance
Additional Details
During deployment, you will receive on the job training combined with instructor led classroom training. This training program and work is carried out in accordance with company and US Navy processes and procedures.
At the completion of your deployment, you will return to Western Australia (WA) to carry out the planning, management, and in-water maintenance activities on the United States Navy Virginia Class Submarines. Repatriation to WA is non-negotiable, so please consider this when applying.
Please note: This is a Civilian role and recruitment processes will differ from those undertaken in Active Service Defence recruitment.
