About The Role
The Young People Directorate (YPD) is responsible for the safety, security and rehabilitation of young people both in the community and custody. Its core objective is to reduce reoffending among young people through services to divert young people away from the criminal justice system, programs and services for young people on orders in the community; and programs and services in custody.
The YPD is guided by the Young People Strategy 2025-2030, which is aligned with the broader Corrective Services Strategic Plan 2025-2030 however, with a specific focus on young people. The Strategy includes the importance of diversion as the primary preferred intervention for young people and the implementation of the new model of care (MoC) for youth detention centres and across youth justice community.
The Principal Project Officer (Contracts) establishes contract arrangements and oversees the contract management arrangements with external providers for programs and services for young people on orders in the community; and programs and services in custody.
The Principal Project Officer (Contracts) is required to oversee multiple contract arrangements and ensure effective contract planning and management that delivers outcomes related to the implementation of MoC. At this level, the incumbent is expected to have demonstrated knowledge of Government Procurement policies, issues and experience in complex, high-level contract development. Client contact is both external and internal to the Department and work involves projects that require comprehensive development and creative solutions.
Eligibility
Permanent positions - To be eligible for appointment to permanent positions in the West Australian Public Sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent resident status in Australia.
WWC positions - In accordance with the National Child Safety Principles, people who work directly with children and young people, you must have a current Working with Children Check or be able to successfully apply for one to be eligible for appointment to this position.
Other special conditions - The position holder must possess a current valid motor vehicle driving licence.
