Your new role
As Senior Legal Counsel, you will provide strategic legal, governance and risk advice to support organisational decision-making and ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory frameworks. While directly managing a junior lawyer in the team, this role offers a broad and engaging portfolio across commercial law, employment law and regulatory matters.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering expert legal advice on governance, compliance, regulatory and commercial issues
- Supporting complex employee relations matters, including investigations, disputes and disciplinary processes
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial and contractual documentation
- Identifying and managing legal, regulatory and operational risks
- Supporting organisational governance frameworks, policies and compliance controls
- Leading engagement with key regulators and managing audits, enquiries and investigations
- Building internal capability through training, tools, guidance and mentoring junior legal staff
What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Tertiary qualifications in Law and a current, unrestricted Australian practising certificate
- Minimum of 5 years post-admission experience
- Solid experience in employment law, governance, regulatory compliance and commercial contracting
- Proven ability to engage with regulators and manage compliance requirements
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to work autonomously while managing competing priorities and delivering high-quality outcomes
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities
- Experience in the disability, health or human services sector (highly regarded but not essential)
