Lead Project Enablement Coach

APA Group

The Opportunity

At APA, our purpose is to secure Australia’s energy future. We’re not doing it alone. We’re doing it with our customers and communities as Australia’s energy infrastructure partner, a role our unique experience and expertise positions us to play.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Project Enablement Coach to join our Energy Solutions team on a 2-year maximum term contract, supporting our exciting pipeline of growth projects.

Reporting to the Manager, Improvement & Performance, this role sits at the intersection of strategy and execution, working directly within cross-functional project teams to strengthen how outcomes are delivered.

This is a coaching-led role, focused on enabling sustained behavioural change rather than enforcing process. You will work alongside project leaders and teams to observe how work is actually delivered—identifying where behaviours, decision-making and ways of working are either enabling or constraining performance.

Through real-time insight and targeted coaching, you will help teams shift towards one-team, high-performance behaviours—improving clarity of decisions, reducing internal friction, and reinforcing a customer focus.

Success in this role is not measured by process adoption, but by more disciplined execution, better decisions, and stronger, more consistent delivery outcomes across our growth portfolio.

The role can be based in Brisbane or Perth, with flexible and hybrid working options available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Embed within cross-functional project teams to observe behaviours, interactions and decision-making in real time.
  • Diagnose where behaviours (e.g. siloed thinking, unclear accountability, reactive decision-making) are impacting delivery performance, and actively challenge behaviours that create internal friction, misalignment or inefficiency.
  • Identify strengths and improvement opportunities across teams, focusing on practical, actionable change.
  • Provide independent, evidence-based insight and constructive challenge to leaders and teams.
  • Coach leaders and team members to build and sustain high-performance behaviours to move beyond siloed operating models towards integrated, outcome-focused delivery.
  • Reinforce consistent ways of working that improve execution rhythm, alignment and predictability.
  • Establish feedback loops to surface recurring behavioural and systemic themes across projects.
  • Support the evolution and practical application of the Project Development Framework, ensuring it enables (not hinders) delivery.

Your background

  • Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent professional experience, with additional training, certifications or proven expertise in areas such as coaching, leadership, project delivery or continuous improvement highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in complex project, operational or transformation environments.
  • Strong track record of coaching leaders and teams to improve performance and behaviours (not just implementing process).
  • Proven ability to influence without authority and challenge constructively at all levels in a matrix environment with varying stakeholders.
  • Experience improving execution discipline, decision-making quality and team alignment with advanced ability to translate observations into clear, practical insights and actions.
  • Strong understanding of project or delivery lifecycles, with the ability to diagnose where things break down in practice.
  • High emotional intelligence with the ability to build trust, observe objectively and intervene effectively.
  • Strong commercial and customer mindset, with the ability to redirect teams towards value-based decisions.

About The Team

The Improvement & Performance team operates at the intersection of strategy, execution and performance, partnering across APA’s major development, commercial and customer-facing functions for improved business delivery outcomes.

The team plays a critical role in shaping and informing strategy through data-driven insights, while also working hands-on with teams to ensure that strategy translates into practical, consistent and high-quality execution.

With a strong focus on real-world outcomes, the team identifies performance drivers, removes friction, and embeds ways of working that enable better decision-making, stronger alignment and improved customer and commercial results across the organisation’s growth agenda.
