Amplify the Territory in Asia and strengthen relationships to connect local businesses and industries with international
markets and investors.
Context statement
The Department of Trade, Business and Asian Relations mission is to act now to position the Northern Territory for a vibrant

sustain a vibrant Territory economy and lifestyle.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Develop, facilitate and participate in Northern Territory Government and designated international delegations, as
appropriate.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment and coordination of international activities.
3. Develop, implement and evaluate initiatives and projects that support the government’s strategic and policy priorities.
4. Represent and promote the Northern Territory Government’s interests at business, industry and intergovernmental
meetings (local, national and international).
5. Build and sustain positive relationships with local, national and international stakeholders across government, industry
and community.
6. Coordinate implementation of whole of government Market Plans.
7. Prepare and contribute to high level reports, briefings, statements, and correspondence.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated high level project management skills, including the ability to co-ordinate, prioritise, negotiate and liaise
with private and public sector stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
2. Understanding of local, national and international economic and political issues as they relate to the Northern Territory’s
engagement in the region.
3. Well-developed oral and written communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills, and ability to prepare high level
reports, briefings and correspondence for a wide range of audiences.
4. High degree of motivation and ability to work independently or as part of a team to meet changing priorities and
deadlines.
5. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
6. Commitment to flexible, collaborative, innovative and problem-solving approaches.
7. Extensive experience in research and critical analysis, and the provision of high-level policy advice.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in International Relations/Business or a related discipline.
2. International business experience and/or foreign language skills.
3. Experience in diplomacy or international engagement.
