Aboriginal Family Violence Practitioner

Full-time | 38 hours per week

This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander designated position, classified under Section 12 Special Measures of the Equal Opportunity Act (2010). This employment opportunity is only available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people .

About the Role

The Aboriginal Family Violence Practitioner provides culturally safe case management and support through an Aboriginal Family Violence Integrated Response model. This includes intake, assessment, and ongoing support using the MARAM Framework and RAC cultural assessment tools.

Working closely with the Family Violence Team, the role supports Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and families experiencing family violence, while also contributing to culturally safe practice through collaboration, secondary consultations, and stakeholder engagement.

About You

Qualifications and Experience

A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Welfare, Community Development, or a related field is preferred. Applicants with significant relevant experience and/or those currently studying are strongly encouraged to apply.

You will bring the following skils

  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, community, and self-determination, including knowledge of the local service system and community needs.
  • Sound knowledge and experience in Aboriginal family violence practice and culturally safe service delivery.
  • Experience supporting Aboriginal children, young people, adults, and Elders within integrated and multi-agency service settings.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and contribute to culturally safe, responsive, and high-quality practice.
  • Strong self-awareness, communication, and professional accountability skills.

The successful applicant will be required to complete pre-employment screening, including a National Police Check, Working with Children Check, Victorian Driver Licence, and Confirmation of Aboriginality.
