Job Purpose
BBC Studios Australia is seeking a Senior Commercial Accountant to manage the financial oversight of the BBC Studios (BBCS) and HVK Productions joint venture, responsible for Bluey’s Big Play, Bluey’s World, and associated live and experiential activities.
Based in our Melbourne office, this role will ensure robust financial control, compliance, and timely reporting across multiple joint venture entities. You’ll work closely with BBCS and HVK finance teams to deliver accurate reporting, ensure financial transparency, and support the continued success of Bluey’s global brand.
Initial travel to Brisbane and Sydney will be required for onboarding and systems familiarisation.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities Financial Control & Compliance
- Implement and maintain financial controls across all joint venture activities.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards (IFRS 15 and IFRS 16) and internal BBCS finance policies.
- Support annual audits and respond to auditor queries.
- Provide financial support and advisory input to joint venture stakeholders as required.
Event-Specific Financial Duties
This role will be responsible for the following duties with regard to the Events:
- Implementation and reporting of all financial controls.
- Preparation of KPI reporting and dashboards including sales and inventory.
- Periodic review of cashflow entries and account reconciliations.
- Preparation of month-end journals, including:
- accruals
- prepayments
- cost of sales adjustments
- depreciation and amortisation
- any other accounting journals as directed by BBCS’ Finance Department and approved by BBCS’ SVP Finance.
- Preparation of monthly reports for the Events, including:
- Monthly and post event financial statements (Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet, and Cashflow).
- Variance analysis and commentary against budgets.
- Monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including reconciliations to subsidiary ledgers (inventory, fixed assets, etc.).
- Provide support to external tax agent.
- Ensuring ongoing compliance and performing any additional duties as agreed between the parties.
Inventory & Fixed Assets
- Manage inventory accounting: Record purchases and adjustments, reconcile physical counts, and ensure accurate valuation using approved costing methods.
- Maintain fixed assets ledger: Track acquisitions, disposals, and transfers; calculate and post depreciation; reconcile to the general ledger.
- Prepare reports and support compliance: Deliver month-end close schedules, audit documentation, and ensure adherence to accounting standards.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cashflow
- Collaborate with BBC CP&A team on budgets and forecasts.
- Review actual performance against target KPI’s and communicating variances.
- Prepare weekly and monthly cashflow summaries for review by BBCS and HVK.

- Strong technical accounting skills.

- Comfortable managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
- Collaborative and adaptable, with a hands-on approach to finance operations.
- Ability to work independently in a matrix organisation, supporting numerous stakeholders.
Professional Experience & Education
- Professional Accounting Qualification (Fully Qualified).
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in financial accounting, control, or reporting.
- Strong technical knowledge of IFRS 15, IFRS 16, and Australian accounting standards.
- Hands-on experience with Xero and Microsoft Excel (intermediate to advanced).
- Exposure to the media, live entertainment, or production industries will be highly regarded (but not necessary).
