Your new role

As a Data Engineer, you will support the Data & Insights lead in the Technology and Data (T&D) business unit, contributing to the operation and development of enterprise data hub built on Snowflake, which is a new capability established in the business. Focus of the function is to build out approved data ingestion pipelines to enable the development of reporting and analytics solutions across the business. This role involves building and maintaining comprehensive end to end data solutions, assisting with requirements gathering, and shaping complex data requirements into a structured form. The role will also support strategic reporting needs through Power BI, Streamlit, and equivalent technologies.

The T&D business unit plays a critical role in enabling the organisation’s strategic and operational objectives. As part of the Organisational Performance division, the T&D team ensures secure, reliable, and fit-for purpose digital systems that support operations, data management, and cross-agency collaboration.

Role and responsibilities

  • Develop and continuously improve Snowflake data hub and business intelligence and analytics capabilities.
  • Adhere to data governance frameworks and ensure compliance with internal and external data standards.
  • Provide advice on data strategy, architecture, and analytics.
  • Support strategic planning and performance measurement through robust data insights.
  • Prototype and develop in-house data analytics tools and solutions.
  • Design and maintain Power BI / Streamlit dashboards and reporting tools to support strategic and operational decision making.

What you need to succeed

  • Demonstrated experience in comprehensive end-to-end Snowflake data engineering, spanning pipeline development, data modelling, transformation, and deployment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with core Snowflake tools and technologies, including SQL, DBT, OpenFlow, Snowflake Intelligence, Python, DCM, and Cortex Code.
  • Proven expertise in developing and managing CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and GitHub Workflows.
  • Deep understanding of integration platforms and patterns, including API development and management.
  • Proficiency in scripting and automation with Python and Jinja, and solid working knowledge of version control via GitHub
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to structure and interpret complex datasets and translate findings into actionable insights and intelligence
  • Well-developed reporting and visualization skills, including advanced proficiency in Power BI and Streamlit
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage confidently with technical and nontechnical stakeholders and operate effectively within a small team environment.
