About City of Stonnington

The City of Stonnington is one of Melbourne’s most vibrant and high-profile inner-city municipalities, known for its thriving activity centres, significant development activity and strong focus on community amenity and place-making.

Following a recent restructure within the City Business team, Council is continuing to strengthen its approach to construction management, compliance and permitting, with a focus on improving transparency, coordination and customer experience for developers, contractors and the community.

About The Role

The Coordinator Construction Management is a key leadership role responsible for leading Council’s construction management and permitting function across a complex and high-volume municipality.

Reporting to the Manager City Business, you will lead a team responsible for construction management plans, work zone permits, vehicle crossings, road occupation permits and related construction activities impacting Council assets and the public realm.

A major focus of the role is improving construction management processes and supporting more transparent and streamlined approvals, making it easier to do business and undertake construction in Stonnington while protecting community amenity and safety.

You will work closely across planning, engineering, compliance and infrastructure teams to facilitate coordinated and efficient service delivery, while building strong working relationships with developers, consultants and contractors.

This role will also contribute to ongoing business improvement initiatives, helping shape systems, processes and service standards that support consistency, efficiency and customer experience.

Leading a capable and experienced team, you will foster a collaborative and accountable culture while building strong relationships across Council and the development community.

About You

Desired Skills and Experience

You are an experienced leader from a construction management, permitting, engineering, compliance or related regulatory environment, with strong knowledge of development and construction impacts within local government or a similarly complex setting.

You bring demonstrated experience leading operational teams, improving systems and processes, and balancing customer outcomes with strong regulatory oversight.

You are highly collaborative, solutions-focused and confident navigating complex stakeholder environments. Your ability to build trusted relationships internally and externally, while providing clear and balanced advice, will be key to your success.

Importantly, you are a hands-on and contemporary leader who values team experience, supports capability development and can bring people on the journey through continuous improvement.
