Field Service Engineer

About the Role

Based out of Melbourne’s northern suburbs, this position will support customer operations through the installation, servicing, maintenance and optimisation of specialised packaging and production equipment.

The role is heavily customer-facing and will involve regular travel to manufacturing sites across Victoria, interstate and occasionally internationally. Typical trips range from day visits through to week-long servicing projects.

You will work closely with customer production, engineering and quality teams to troubleshoot equipment issues, improve reliability and support preventative maintenance programs.

This role would suit someone who enjoys autonomy, variety and building strong relationships while remaining technically hands-on.

Key responsibilities

• Install, service and maintain specialised production and packaging equipment.
• Diagnose faults and troubleshoot breakdowns across customer manufacturing sites.
• Perform preventative maintenance, audits and equipment overhauls.
• Support customers with process improvement and equipment reliability initiatives.
• Recommend, quote and coordinate spare parts requirements.
• Prepare service reports and maintain accurate documentation.
• Deliver training and technical support to customer personnel.
• Build strong relationships with customer engineering, production and quality teams.
• Coordinate travel and service activities across multiple sites.

The ideal candidate for this position will have experience in the following:

• Trade qualification as a Mechanical Fitter and/or Fitter & Turner.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and maintenance capability.
• Experience within FMCG, packaging, beverage, food manufacturing or industrial service environments.
• Ability to work autonomously and manage travel schedules independently.
• Strong communication and customer relationship skills.
• Experience working directly with production or manufacturing customers.
• Exposure to high-speed manufacturing or precision equipment environments is highly regarded.
