Location: Parramatta (with up to one day per week in Sydney CBD)
We are seeking a hands-on Head of AI and Data Privacy Risk to lead and shape how our organisation manages emerging technology risks across artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data privacy.
This is a senior second-line risk leadership role where you will work closely with Technology, Cyber, Data and senior stakeholders to assess AI use cases, strengthen governance frameworks, and ensure privacy obligations are embedded across the organisation’s evolving technology landscape.
As AI adoption accelerates across financial services, this role offers the opportunity to play a key leadership role in building and embedding our enterprise AI risk capability, working at the intersection of risk, technology and data innovation.
This role is suited to someone who combines strategic thinking with a hands-on approach, and who is comfortable influencing senior stakeholders while remaining close to operational detail and execution.
Key Responsibilities
AI & Emerging Technology Risk
- Lead the identification, assessment, and management of AI and advanced analytics risks across new and existing technology initiatives
- Provide second line oversight and challenge on AI model governance frameworks and lifecycle controls
- Drive responsible and well-controlled deployment of AI solutions in partnership with Technology and Data teams
- Lead risk assessments relating to model bias, explainability, governance, and ongoing monitoring frameworks
Data Privacy & Regulatory Risk
- Own and oversee the organisation’s data privacy risk framework aligned with Australian regulatory expectations
- Provide independent review and challenge on Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) and technology risk assessments
- Oversee the management of privacy incidents, regulatory obligations, and breach notification processes
- Ensure privacy by design principles are embedded across all technology and data initiatives
Risk Framework & Governance
- Lead the uplift and ongoing maturity of AI, technology, and data risk governance frameworks
- Drive the development and implementation of risk policies, standards, and guidance relating to AI and emerging technologies
- Monitor regulatory developments and emerging risks in AI and data usage, ensuring proactive organisational response
- Provide strategic and pragmatic risk advice to senior business and technology stakeholders
Leadership & Stakeholder Influence
- Build and maintain strong relationships across Technology, Cyber Security, Legal, Data, Product, and Risk functions
- Influence senior stakeholders to balance innovation with strong risk management and governance outcomes
- Contribute to and shape the broader enterprise technology and data risk strategy and capability uplift
- Act as a key point of escalation and trusted advisor on AI and data risk matters
About You
You are an experienced technology, data or risk leader who enjoys operating within evolving technology environments and is passionate about building capability in AI governance and emerging technology risk.
You are equally comfortable operating at a strategic level while remaining hands-on, and you bring the ability to influence stakeholders and drive outcomes in complex, fast-paced environments.
Experience
- Extensive experience across AI governance, Technology Risk, Information Security Risk, Data Privacy Risk, or Model Risk
- Experience operating at a senior or leadership level within a regulated environment (financial services industry experience highly regarded)
- Strong understanding of Australian privacy obligations and regulatory expectations
- Proven experience leading or contributing to risk frameworks, governance, and control environments
- Experience partnering closely with technology and engineering teams to assess new platforms and capabilities
Knowledge Areas
Exposure to the following will be highly regarded:
- AI / Machine Learning governance or model risk management
- Data governance and data risk management
- Technology risk frameworks (e.g. NIST, ISO 27001)
- APRA standards (e.g. CPS 234, CPS 230)
- Privacy by design and Privacy Impact Assessments

- Able to translate complex technical risk topics into clear, actionable advice
