Legal Counsel: Private Credit (Real Estate)

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Legal, this role sits at the heart of a highly active real estate credit business. You will provide practical, solutions-focused legal advice across deal origination and structuring, fund establishment and management, and regulatory compliance, working directly alongside the investment team with genuine ownership of a broad and varied workload.

Responsibilities
- Advise on structuring and transaction documents across real estate financing transactions from origination through to execution.
- Support the management of underperforming credit investments, including workout, enforcement and restructuring matters.
- Advise on new fund establishment and the ongoing management of existing funds, including disclosure documents and investor communications.
- Monitor and advise on legal and regulatory developments applicable to managed investment schemes and credit funds.
- Review commercial agreements and manage external counsel across complex financing and fund transactions.
- Build strong relationships across Investment, Compliance, Risk, Product, Tax and Finance teams.
Requirements
- Law degree and an Australian Practising Certificate (or eligibility).
- 3–6 years' PQE from a top-tier, international or recognised mid-tier law firm.
- Strong technical background in banking and finance law with meaningful exposure to real estate finance, credit funds and/or structured credit transactions.
- Sound knowledge of the Corporations Act and regulatory frameworks applicable to managed investment schemes and credit funds.
- Commercial, solutions-focused approach with the ability to advise senior stakeholders confidently in a fast-paced, deal-driven environment.
- Collaborative, pragmatic working style with strong drafting and negotiation skills.
- Desirable: prior in-house or secondment experience within an asset manager or credit fund; exposure to distressed credit or workout processes.
