Your new role

The Mainframe Specialist plays a critical operational role in supporting the modernized mainframe platform rehosted on AWS using Innowake technology. You will support batch, CICS, middleware, interfaces, and cloud‑integrated services that underpin licensing and registration services across Victoria.

You will provide Level 2/3 24x7 application support and high-quality customer service for queries, incidents, service requests and application management for the client’s application in the mainframe eco-system in AWS. All activities are conducted in-line with ITIL practices. You will collaborate closely with cloud engineers, DevOps teams, vendors (Innowake, Deloitte, AWS), and operational teams to maintain a stable and resilient technology ecosystem.

Role and responsibilities

• Act as a Level 2/3 service support function, managing and resolving incidents, service requests, and operational issues in line with ITSM processes and agreed SLAs and OLAs.
• Perform incident investigation, diagnosis, and resolution for application and platform services, including AWS infrastructure, databases, DotNet and the Tomcat application stack.
• Monitor service health, availability, and performance of Tomcat‑based applications hosted on AWS, proactively identifying and addressing incidents and potential service degradations.
• Oversee and implement the planning, scheduling and running of mainframe batch processing
• Ongoing management of internal applications built on AWS mainframe to ensure stability, performance and security.

What you need to succeed

• Demonstrated experience managing incidents, requests, problems, changes and releases in a highly complex IT environment in a large corporate organisation
• Strong technical knowledge across a range of IT systems, including hardware, software, database and cloud-based solutions.
• Highly developed skills in troubleshooting and demonstrated experience supporting broad range of technical environments including on-premises and SaaS.
• SME-level experience in mainframe legacy modernisation, preferably in AWS-hosted environments.
• Strong hands-on experience with: COBOL, Java, JCL, CICS, Linux, IBM MQ, Innowake/ Micro Focus runtime environments, Procedural Java (Innowake generated).
