Accountant/ Senior Bookkeeper

The Advanced Manufacturing Growth Centre (AMGC) is insourcing its accounting activities and seeks an experienced, detail-oriented Accountant to join our team on a part time basis, three days per week, on site in Sydney. This role is ideal for someone who is highly organised, confident working across multiple cost centres, and experienced managing payroll and compliance requirements across multiple States and Territories. You will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records, supporting management through timely reporting, and maintaining smooth day to day financial operations.

KEY DELIVERABLES

Payroll & Compliance

Process monthly payroll up to 12 employees across multiple Australian jurisdictions.

Manage payroll related obligations including payroll tax, FBT, superannuation, and statutory reporting.

Maintain accurate employee records and ensure compliance with relevant awards and legislation.

Process leave transactions and tracking leave balances for each employee.

Process employee payment obligations (e.g. HECS, spousal support etc).

Bookkeeping & Accounting

Perform end to end bookkeeping for several cost centres.

Reconcile accounts, bank statements, Accounts Payable / Accounts Receivable, and intercompany transactions.

Prepare journals, maintain the general ledger, and support month end processes.

Expenses & Financial Administration

Manage staff expense claims and company credit card reconciliations.

Prepare ABA payment files for weekly supplier payments, purchase orders, and payment runs.

Maintain accurate financial documentation and filing systems.

Reporting

Prepare weekly and monthly financial reports including Balance Sheet and Profit & Loss statements for management, and quarterly reports for Board Meetings.

Assist with budgeting and forecasting.

Preparation of program acquittal reports.

Complete required government and statutory reporting (BAS, IAS, payroll tax returns, etc.) across multiple States and Territories.

Ensure regulatory compliance and documentations are kept up to date with appropriate institutions, e.g., ASIC, ATO.

Prepare Taxable Payment Annual Report and lodge TPAR.

Prepare actual wages declaration for workers' compensation purposes across multiple States and Territories, and prepare estimate for the following financial year.

Administration

Assist Chair and Chief Operating Officer in preparing and tracking of Annual Budgets

Assist in annual audit preparation with external auditors

Maintain clear and accurate records ensuring proper archiving and securing confidential information

Monitor deadlines for reporting of important lodgements and filings

Communicate with suppliers on invoices and payment matters

All other duties as required

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

The key deliverables listed above will require that the successful candidate has background and experience, as detailed below:

Proven experience as a senior Bookkeeper, Accountant or similar finance roles.

Strong understanding of Australian payroll requirements; exposure to multi jurisdiction payroll highly desirable.

Proficiency with XERO accounting software and knowledge of Salesforce.

Strong Excel skills and ability to work with spreadsheets and reporting tools.

Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and organisational skills.

Ability to work independently while collaborating with internal teams as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will have tertiary qualifications in Accounting and/or an Advanced Diploma in Bookkeeping.
