The Role
We are looking for a Junior Legal Counsel to join our client in Melbourne on a 3-month contract (with the potential to extend).
Working with our client, a Victorian-based not-for-profit, you will be supporting the in-house legal team across a broad range of day-to-day commercial legal matters. This is a fantastic opportunity for a junior lawyer looking to build their in-house experience in a purpose-driven organisation with a creative and community-focused mission.
This role would suit someone who enjoys variety, is keen to learn, and is comfortable working closely with internal stakeholders to provide practical and commercial support.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide legal support across a broad range of general commercial matters including contract negotiation, marketing and promotions review, procurement, IT and more.
- Review, draft and negotiate a variety of commercial contracts and agreements.
- Assist with advising internal stakeholders on day-to-day legal issues, balancing risk with commercial and operational objectives.
- Support the business with policy, compliance and governance-related matters as required.
- Work closely with internal teams to help identify legal risks and contribute to practical solutions.
- Assist with legal research, document review and other tasks to support the wider legal function.
- Contribute to the smooth running of legal matters in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
About You
- A qualified lawyer with 2-4 PQE, ideally with expereince in general commercial law.
- Experience gained in a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal team.
- Strong drafting and communication skills, with the ability to explain issues clearly and practically.
- A genuine interest in working in an in-house environment and supporting a diverse stakeholder group.
- Good attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
- A proactive, collaborative and positive attitude.
- Interest in the arts, culture or not-for-profit sector will be highly regarded.
