Mackay Regional Council is seeking an experienced scientific professional to join our Water Treatment team as a Senior Scientist. This role is responsible for delivering advanced technical, quality, scientific and analytical services for the Mackay Regional Council Laboratory while supporting high standards of customer service and continuous improvement.
About This Opportunity
The Senior Scientist will oversee the operational, technical and performance aspects of the laboratory under limited direction, ensuring the successful completion of analytical tasks in line with quality assurance standards. The role leads a team and directs the quality control and approval of physical, chemical and microbiological analytical results for water and wastewater samples, while also contributing to laboratory systems improvement, accreditation compliance, budget support and the delivery of reliable services to internal and external customers.
Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- Degree in Applied Science majoring in Chemistry and/or Microbiology, or equivalent, from a recognised tertiary institution.
- QLD “C” Class Driver Licence or interstate equivalent.
- General Construction Induction Training.
- Substantial experience coordinating laboratory tasks and leading staff performing analytical duties.
- Strong knowledge of chemical, physical and microbiological testing of water and wastewater, including laboratory quality management systems such as NATA and ISO 17025.
- Demonstrated team leadership, critical thinking, data analysis and continuous improvement capability.
- Experience with laboratory and field equipment, scientific instruments and laboratory information management systems will be highly regarded.
