Solutions Architect
Digital Native - Digital & Technology Recruitment
About the Role
Queensland Corrective Services is one of the state's largest and most complex government agencies, and its Digital Services & IT Command is at the heart of driving meaningful technology change across the organisation. This is not a passive advisory role - the Solution Architect will own the architecture function, shaping how QCS approaches its software development lifecycle and ensuring ICT investment delivers real outcomes for the agency and the communities it serves.
You will work across a broad portfolio of offender information systems, engaging with senior executives, project teams, and business units to translate complex requirements into practical, standards-aligned technical solutions. If you enjoy working at the intersection of strategy and delivery - where your decisions genuinely influence how technology is built and governed - this role offers exactly that.
With a 12-month engagement and a strong rate of $146.20/hour inc Super, this is a substantial opportunity for an experienced architect ready to make their mark in a high-impact government environment.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading solution architecture activities across QCS, including developing and maintaining a QCS Solution Architecture Framework
- Defining common solution architectures, patterns, and practices for offender information systems
- Producing key architecture artefacts including Conceptual Design documents, Solution Design documents, Solution Options documents, and Impact Analysis documents
- Reviewing and interpreting detailed business requirements to produce architectures aligned with QCS enterprise architecture and Queensland Government standards
- Advising senior executives, project teams, and business units on ICT solutions and system implementations
- Incorporating the Queensland Government Enterprise Architecture Framework into QCS solution designs
- Monitoring emerging technologies and providing expert advice on how they can be applied to meet business needs
- Contributing to QCS ICT strategy and enterprise architecture artefacts
What You'll Need (Essential)
- Proven experience as a Solution Architect operating with a high degree of autonomy across complex ICT environments
- Demonstrated ability to design and document end-to-end technical solutions across the full software development lifecycle
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with experience advising senior executives and cross-functional project teams
- Experience producing formal architecture artefacts (solution designs, options papers, impact assessments)
- Solid understanding of enterprise architecture frameworks and government ICT standards
- Ability to assess and manage risk within solution design and delivery contexts
- Strong communication skills - able to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences
- Experience mentoring colleagues and influencing technical direction across an organisation
Nice to Have
- Formal qualifications in Information Technology or a related discipline

- Prior experience working within a Queensland Government or public sector environment
